Walk of Serenity

Walk of Serenity

THE PHOTO:
The remarkable Greenhouses of Laeken, part of the Royal Castle of Laeken, was a highlight of my trip to Belgium this May. It was by mere accident as I was enjoying a day’s walk around the huge Exposition area north of the city, through public gardens, before deciding to venture beyond the gates of the Castle only to find that I was lucky enough to visit during the two weeks of the year that these Greenhouses are open to the public.

This image is of a small segment of the hundreds of meters of enclosed walkways that are encapsulated by plants on walls and ceilings, with little statuettes positioned like this in corners, and so many quaint discoveries. It was, despite the other tourists, a very serene experience.
